beach plum

These deciduous shrubs grow to between 3 and 6 feet tall, through some can be as tall as 12 feet. They have deep green, elliptically shaped leaves, purple edible fruit, and white or purple flowers. These plants do great in sandy soil and can actually fix nitrogen with their roots so they require very little maintenance to thrive. Visit the Emily deCamp Herbarium for more information.
